ACTIVITY OF THE DAY
A fun way to teach your child a name like "Mama" or "Daddy" is to call out the name of the person. I do this often with my toddler even when she already knows how to say a name to give her more practice using words. Here is an example of how you can use calling to help your child say "Daddy."
Sitting on the floor next to child.
Mother calling to Dad in other room: Daddy, Daaaaaaaaaaaaddy, Daddyyyyyyyyyyy
Mother: pausing to give child a chance to say Daddy
Mother: Daddy, Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddy, Daddy
Pausing to give child a chance to say Daddy
It is a simple yet effective strategy when used periodically. You may want to let the Daddy know what you are doing first though.
You can use this to teach many different words. You can look out a window and call a car or a dog. You can also call sibling's names or call for a hidden toy.
